Furniture Classics Limited believes in protecting our natural resources and promoting efforts to sustain the environment. This is a top down effort at our company. In fact, our company president received a University of Virginia undergraduate degree in Environmental Science before completing his graduate studies in law. Whether it involves the sourcing of raw materials or the disposal of rubbish, we strive to make every small effort count towards earth friendly stewardship.
NEW LUMBER
Furniture Classics begins its environmental focus at the factory level with lumber sourcing. The majority of lumber used in our newly made furniture originates in managed plantation forests where selective cutting and reforestation are practiced. Other wood is sourced from suppliers certified with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative TM (SFI) and/or the Forest Stewardship Council TM (FSC). Our partner factory in Indonesia is a participant in the Trees 4 Trees TM program.
RECLAIMED LUMBER
A substantial, and growing, number of our products are constructed of lumber reclaimed from the interiors and exteriors of old buildings and structures. We re-use old elm, fir, pine and teak boards in making new furniture

FOUND ITEMS - RENEWED & REFURBISHED
Some of our products are true old items originating in China that are renewed and refurbished once collected at the factory. We refer to these unique pieces of furniture as “found items”. This includes actual Chinese antiques!
Our factories pride themselves on the local talent that hand weaves chairs and tables of rattan, natural rush seats and hand woven fabrics.
RATTAN DRYING IN THE SUN IN INDONESIA
Our corporate facilities in Norfolk, Virginia participate in local recycling and collection efforts. Recycling bins are located strategically throughout our facilities. We try to purchase recycled products for daily use in our facilities where possible.
